- How does sound produce meaning, emotion, and movement?
- What is the power of sound to heal the body and the spirit?
- What is the relationship between sound and social justice?
- Is there power in silence?
- Can sound play a role in the healing of cultural and historical trauma?
- How can we cultivate a culture of listening?
Sing, dance, play instruments, contemplate silence – investigate sound and its effect on the individual and the group.
Faculty and students will analyze the ways that sounds affect our health, well-being, society and the environment. Through hands-on activities, we will experiment with various forms of sound and silence to animate the connection between sound, embodiment, social and individual well-being. Student teams will collaborate to design research projects that will supply answers to the Lab’s guiding questions and share their insights with the public. Students will enjoy a visit to the Musical Instrument Museum and investigate sound in ASU’s renowned Organ Hall.Impact Outcomes
